And I've come to the exact same conclusion as yours : C1P is great in session mode, but it sucks in catalog mode.Īt this point, still amazed by C1P and still pixel peeping (I don't anymore since I have a UHD monitor), I used to try several DAMs (and I mean try hard, like buying a licence because trial periods weren't enough). As a former LR user, I've first been dazzled by C1P before understanding how crappy their DAM is (and as you, Ive been upset by the lack of iMedia support). I've spent the last years as a software errant. Has anyone developed a good workflow that uses the LR catalog for the DAM and CO for the primary RAW developer?Īnother question - what version of Photoshop do you use now? How easy is it to go from CO to PS and back?īTW - I don't want to start a debate or waste thread space on the pluses and minuses of the raw developers or subscription vs non subscription or any other software. But they would hopefully allow me to search a large catalog and speed up the time it takes to get photos loaded into CO.ĭoes a 3rd party DAM work well with CO sessions? Have any CO users used a 3rd party DAM like ACDSee or Photo Supreme with success? I realize that they would not show me a raw photo with CO edits.

If I go to CO full time, I want a good DAM.

Thus I would probably use CO in Sessions.

The general complaint that I read about CO is its lack of a good DAM or catalog. I will probably run in parallel with LR until Classic disappears. That said, I will probably be moving away from LR within a year or so - as I now believe that their strategy will require me to use cloud storage for my originals - which I will refuse to do.Īt this point I would go back to CO, and will probably do that when version 12 comes out. I am generally quite happy with Lightroom now, and the ability to fine tune and finish a photo in Photoshop, often using some Topaz plugins and masking. I often shoot photos to construct panoramas and HDRs.

I stopped using CO during version 7 because I was fed up with Phase one's inability to develop Media Pro and to develop a decent catalog. The way I shoot photos, generally from 20-500 at a time, has led me to develop a workflow that has a lot of activity between a DAM and the editor, going back and forth to select a photo or photos to work on, add key words, compare to a previous edit, etc. I used them in parallel for a few years, as each had strengths I liked. Someplace in there I also took on Lightroom, V2 or V3 I think. I have used Capture ONE (CO) from version 2 through Version 7.
